About Virginia Baptist Homes

Pastor James Thomas Edwards of Culpeper, Virginia had a vision more than 65 years ago of creating an extraordinary home to care for aging adults, which provided a nurturing environment and comprehensive care. He envisioned a place that fostered intellectual challenge, creative aspiration, spiritual growth, and social engagement.

Pastor Edward realized his dream in 1945 when the Baptist General Association of Virginia voted to create a new ministry and open a home to care for seniors. Three years later, the first of four retirement communities opened its doors. Today, Virginia Baptist Homes operates four communities that welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds. In addition to The Glebe, continuing care retirement communities are located in Culpeper, Richmond, and Newport News, Virginia.

While each Virginia Baptist Homes community has a unique setting and features, all communities share the steadfast mission of providing “Dignity in Living” and uphold a common value system that reflects the ideals of faith and family. The full values statement can be found at www.vbh.org
