Meet Hilda and John Knapp

Hilda and John Knapp

Two years ago, Hilda and John Knapp of Falmouth, Massachusetts arrived at The Glebe with a pond boat on top of their van and bicycles strapped to the back. Before relocating to campus, these outdoor enthusiasts spent three years researching and visiting continuing care retirement communities across the country.

Both retired business executives, Hilda and John were searching for the perfect place to begin the next chapter in their lives. They sought a community that offered a quality, independent lifestyle, engaging people, and access to abundant outdoor recreation. The Glebe filled the bill, and they fell in love with the natural splendor of the Roanoke Valley. No other community they visited offered the same breathtaking views, close-knit community, and opportunities for mountain climbing, hiking, bicycling, and kayaking – just minutes away.

When the Knapps aren’t enjoying the great outdoors, you can find them actively involved in the happenings at The Glebe. Hilda particularly enjoys the educational courses and lecture series held on campus. John likes to spend his mornings playing pool with friends and serves as treasurer of the community’s resident’s council.

The Knapps view their relocation to The Glebe as a new adventure. “We are so glad we’re here. It’s one of the best choices we’ve made – like a jewel in the crown,” Hilda said.
