Carole Edwards was born, grew up and lived for 56 years on Staten Island (one of the 5 boroughs of New York City) where she taught high school English and Social Studies and maintained a private piano studio as well. Her piano teaching involved very active participation in professional organizations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New York State and on the National level where her students participated in auditions, workshops and concerts. For 45 years she has been an adjudicator for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and many other organizations.
In 1994 Carole built a home on Smith Mountain Lake in "The Water's Edge" where she continued the tradition of presenting annual 2 piano ensemble concerts. "Carole Edwards and Friends," a group she formed in 1974 to have fun studying and performing piano ensemble music, is now in its 38th consecutive year of presenting 2 piano, 4 hand, 6 hand, and 8 hand music. They hold the distinction of "longest running piano quartet in the country." This tradition continues with a full week of concerts at The Glebe where they have already performed for 6 years. Work is well underway for their 39th presentation in the Spring of 2012. The Glebe has afforded Carole the opportunity, not only to continue all of her past activities, but to enrich her life by the pursuit of innumerable new adventures. Says Carole: "Volunteer endeavors are an invaluable component of my life! I thank God daily for my life here at The Glebe."
