About The Glebe

The Glebe is the newest Virginia Baptist Homes community, opening its doors in 2005. Having an exceptional continuing care community in the Roanoke Valley to serve and nurture aging adults has been a dream of constituents of Virginia Baptist Homes for nearly 30 years.

That dream became a reality when 65 acres that were once part of a century-old apple orchard owned by Botetourt County’s Ikenberry family became available. With spectacular views of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains, the site was one of the most picturesque areas of the region. It was also minutes from the dynamic city of Roanoke and scores of recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities.

In 1998, Virginia Baptist Homes began development of The Glebe. To meet the needs of the “next generation” of retirees, the community was designed with large, well appointed apartments and cottages – and a large variety of meaningful amenities that provide seniors with a rewarding and fulfilling lifestyle.

In November, 2002, groundbreaking activities commenced. In 2005, the first residents moved into the community. Today, The Glebe is home to more than 200 residents who are enjoying a fulfilling, active lifestyle, along with the peace of mind that comes from knowing additional care is available should the need arise.
